The calligraphic dimension of the works and the focus on Persian roots are also nourished by familiarity with East Asian ink paintings. This visual language is also saturated with the visual experiences of splendid drapery studies of Western Renaissance painting. Describes Prof. Dr. Anne- Marie Bonnet in the catalogue text: “Tales from the Waves”
Mojé Assefjah’s visual scripts bring our imagination to life; the viewer can sometimes see vegetal forms and sometimes baroque draperies. The artist tells stories of dreamed landscapes, between abstraction and figuration….It is an invitation to a journey to the horizon, a solitary walk through the theatre of the visible and tangible continuum, a window through which one sees the worldand in which “everything would whisper”.
My paintings invite the viewer to peer through a window into a nostalgic space, where the eye sees and the mind perceives what it longs for. Using the traditional egg tempera technique, I create rich hues, a matte texture, and shapes with precise outlines that allow me to achieve varying depths. These spaces are built through the interplay of opacity and transparency, proximity and distance, layering upon layers to construct depth.
A free, gestural element manifests itself through wide ribbons.
In my works, influences from Persian calligraphy and miniature painting, East Asian and Oriental art merge with the visual traditions of Renaissance robe studies to create a transcultural visual language—a journey that transcends cultural boundaries.
I like to tell stories of dreamed landscapes, balancing abstraction and figuration. My works serve as a visual-poetic exploration of the fluid boundaries between imagination and reality.
In today’s digital age, where illusions abound, I seek to offer a concrete, sensual invitation to a tangible sensory experience and touchable beauty.
